The land on which Khem Villas stands on the edge of Ranthambhore Park was bought in 1989 by Dr Goverdhan Singh, a medical doctor, son of Legendary Tiger Man Fateh Singh Rathor to save tigers and support sustainable development. After restoring the land into a natural habitat, Goverdhan’s wife, Usha convinced him in 2006 to convert their home into a small jungle lodge. Today the comfortable lodge is set in nearly twenty five acres of wilderness including a small lake, dense forest and open grassland from which guests can enjoy the amazing local flora and fauna. Cottage roofs are made from thatch grown on site and bathrooms are lined with local sandstone.
Khem Villas helps to fund the Prakratik Society, an NGO set up by Dr Singh in 1994 to help the local community to become less dependent on the park and its resources. The Society runs a hospital, school, renewable energy projects and an organic farm and dairy which supply food for the lodge.
