The forest is contiguous to the protected area network of Nagarhole and Bandipur of Karnataka on the Northeast and Mudumalai of Tamil Nadu on the Southeast, and is well managed by the Forest Department management who lay emphasis on scientific conservation with due consideration for the general lifestyle of the tribal communities who dwell in an...d around the forest region

  • The spacious rooms at Wayanad Wild (situated on the edge of a forest) are well-equipped with modern facilities and amenities with breath taking views. The balconies are the perfect spot to spend time as you rejuvenate in nature, with birdsong, beautiful weather, and endless green. The rooms are an amalgamation of salvaged ship-wood and bamboo, which define eco- conscious architecture, and act as an earthy counterpoint to the light steel structures that are built without removing the trees on the sloped terrain.
  • While the seasonal purchases are from the local markets, the fish comes straight from the harbour and from the river. A specialty here is Kingfish, stuffed with chillies and small onions, that makes for a flavourful repast. The rice most often served is Paalthondi, native to the district, along with special Bamboo rice, and a few other varieties like, Mullan kaima, Njavara, Gandhakashala,Wayanadan Thondi etc.that is painstakingly gathered and cleaned to make the local rice pudding, Payasam

Established in 1973, the sanctuary is an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.
