The number of tigers in India has increased from 2,967 in 2018 to 3,682 in 2022, an annual rise of 6 per cent, according to the latest government data released on the International Tiger Day on Saturday.

With the focus on conservation, tourism and heritage, the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR), one of the most popular tiger reserves in the country, will celebrate a three-day ‘Tadoba Festival’ from March 1 to 3.

India is soon going to get its 54th tiger reserve in Rajasthan. The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) recently granted approval for the establishment of the tiger reserve in Rajasthan’s Karauli and Dholpur districts.

Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the Chamarajanagar district, Karnataka, will very soon welcome visitors with jungle safaris. The safari routes will be in Gopinatham, inside Cauvery WS, the birthplace of the infamous slain bandit Veerappan.

Now draw an imaginary line from Corbett in the north, through Kanha and Bandhavgarh and via Pench and Tadoba in central India to Nagarhole, Mudumalai and Bandipur in the south.

The 2,339 square kilometres new tiger reserve, to be called Durgavati Tiger Reserve, will spread across Narisinghpur, Damoh and Sagar districts. A green corridor linking PTR with Durgavati will be developed for the natural movement of the tiger to the new reserve, officials added.
