The endangered and endemic lion-tailed macaque and Nilgiri tahr are found in this one-of-its-kind Western Ghats ecosystem.

The tropical lake forest, Periyar Tiger Reserve holds and protects the precious Periyar Lake that attracts all creatures great and small. This reserve is made up of diverse habitats and is an excellent site to sight the endangered dholes, gaur and elephants.
