What’s at Stake?   Heritage & Culture

Tigers and many other species have strong social and religious heritage, being iconic in Asia’s rich religious and cultural life, as seen in cosmology, faiths and folklore.  Traditional and Indigenous cultures are disappearing fast too – and the relationship between these species and their cultural attitudes to them are changing, and are often not conducive to being good neighbours.

Protecting landscapes is an important contribution to preserving heritage and culture too, if done sensitively.  Nature based services and activities, like recreational, religious and educational activities in natural settings can often help to preserve and strengthen beliefs and reawaken declining cultural heritage activities.
